Chronic or Acute Medical Diagnoses

Navigating chronic medical diagnoses brings its own set challenges.  Much of my career, I've helped people and their caregivers cope with medical conditions such as cancer, organ and stem-cell transplants, HIV, COVID-19, as well as many other physical conditions.

Besides trying to navigate all your medical appointments, medical needs, and physical changes due to your diagnosis, most likely you are also being confronted with thoughts and emotions that are new to you, or that you can no longer ignore. Everyone copes and reacts differently, yet over the years I've seen many themes and have developed many tools that are helpful in adjusting and living with chronic or acute illness. I understand how health conditions can impact our minds, thoughts and behaviors, friends and family.  A key part of our work together will offer you coping tools which could include a re-evaluation, or renewed commitment of what is now meaningful and important to you, and how to achieve your new goals.

Medical systems, public and private benefits, and at home care and caregiving are difficult to navigate alone. The experience I bring to our therapy sessions will help you navigate the emotional and medical aspects of your care. I believe caregivers need support too, but I only work with either the person who has the medical diagnosis or the caregiver. From time to time we might decide to have a joint session in order to facilitate important conversations. Most importantly, I want you to have your own personal safe space to discuss what you might not freely discuss otherwise with family or friends.
